A Beautiful Day for a Hike
Can’t Get Enough of the Grand Canyon
Friday June 3
Today we had a full day exploring the Grand Canyon. We hiked the Bright Angel Trailhead down into the canyon which was difficult but beautiful. I carried Liam on my back down the path and Dave carried him on the way back up. Annabelle, Josh, and Caleb were troopers. The boys in particular were a little scared and hesitant about the hike. There was a rock wall on one side and a drop off on the other. I appreciated the boys healthy fear. They were brave, strong, and patient with everyone else’s pace. We hiked about two miles total. We were trying to make it the mile and a half down to the first stop, but we couldn’t quite make it that far. It was already bright and hot at mid morning. Hiking in the canyon was stunning. We saw a birds, squirrels and even a deer crossed our path. Here are just a few of the MANY pictures we took…😜
Annabelle’s chosen outfit of the day was her pink rainbow tulle dress and pink sandals. She received many comments about her pretty dress, her fashion sense, and ballerinas on the trail. People were very kind and encouraging to our crew on the trail. One woman even gave Annabelle an extra water bottle when we ran out.
Dave cooked a fancy campfire dinner of bacon wrapped steak and asparagus. We drove up to the Desert View tower at the east entrance near our campsite to watch the sunset. It was a different view than we saw earlier. Of course at a few minutes til sunset Annabelle has to go to the bathroom and she can’t hold it. We RUN to the bathroom and back. On our way back I heard someone ask “why is everyone running?” As Annabelle ran she screamed “Sunset, I’m coming for you!” But thankfully we didn’t miss the sunset (and neither did the other couple that saw us running). And a super kind woman offered to take a family picture and she took so many pictures it felt like a family photo shoot. It felt magical. It was a perfect ending to our time at the Grand Canyon.
