Goodbye AZ, Hello CA

 On the Road Again

Saturday June 4

Dave and Caleb woke up early and hiked to the canyon to see the sunrise. I’m so glad they got that father/son time together.

We got our campsite all packed up. It was much less stressful this time, thankfully. Before we hit the road we stopped at the visitor center and the three older kids were sworn in as Grand Canyon Junior Rangers. The day before they each completed a variety of activities including canyon bingo, solving riddles, and using their senses to observe and write about what they saw exploring the canyon. The park ranger who swore them in was very friendly and she told us her parents live in Milton, FL which is about an hour away from our house in Gulf Breeze…small world! The kids loved their badges and have been wearing them all day.

Time to hit the road! We drove about 7 hours to Tehachapi, CA where Dave’s mom lives. On the way we stopped for lunch at In N Out which is a family favorite. We arrived in Tehachapi just before dinner and ate yummy Thai food together. After three days of hiking and camping we were very eager to take baths and showers. It felt good to be clean and to be able to do laundry! We’re looking forward to a few days of rest and relaxation with Dave’s mom, Sara.
